About This Game NeonCode is a one hour long cyberpunk-retrowave adventure game. It was inspired by classics such as the Blade Runner-movies, Miami Vice, Grim Fandango and the games of Telltale. The game made by a single developerThe game was made by one developer, Zsolt Várady alias fubenalvo, who developed NeonCode in his free time. At first, it was curiosity that drove him to find out what can one do with free Unity assets, but then, a whole world started to unfold and a story was needed to be told…Although not in the game development itself, but he had some help: The dialogues were written by Zsófia Várady-PállWho is Craig Williams? The player takes on the role of private detective Craig Williams, an ex-cop who was suspended due to his problems with alcohol. He opened his own PI office in a worn-out apartment in the hope of rebuilding his life. Unfortunately, there aren’t many cases around, and he has to scrape for work…After a long day, he is on his way to his office when he hears gunshots in the distance. He is the first to arrive to the crime scene, and soon meets his former work partner, ordered by the police to find out what happened. Perhaps this is the chance for Craig to prove himself and get his old job and life back?A city to walk around in freelyClassic ‘hidden object’ elementsMurders to solveCars to driveJokes to discoverA real cyberpunk feel with a neon church….and an attractive damsel in distressNeonCode was inspired by the style of the Blade Runner-movies, Miami Vice, Grim Fandango and the games of Telltale. It should be obvious to all potential buyers that this is not a "triple A" title, and as such you can see that this game is made with some assets that were not created "in-house", i.e. from the Unity Asset Store. Now I myself am a developer who is familiar with Unity, so I can see how they used the assets and the engine in this game. They have created a fairly decent atmosphere with what they have. There are a few issues with relative scale that look a little silly and can break immersion, but that is really just a nitpick on my part.In this game you are basically performing simple tasks in order to progress though the narrative. The gameplay is really simple, but if you like exploring atmospheric levels and looking for clues, this is what you'll get. The narrative isn't amazing, but it's not horrible either; it's just sort of basic. I do wish the narrative and the writing was a little stronger. All things considered, when you take into consideration the fact that this was developed by a small independent team, combined with the low cost of the game, I would recommend this game to people who are open to this kind of experience. I appreciate the vision and the work that the ream put into it.. It's basically Unity Asset Store: The GameThe Good:- Great cyberpunk atmosphere.- The city is surprisingly well made.- The fedora achievement is broken. Just click one hat 5 times and it counts that as having found 5 fedoras. No one has time to look for those. The Okay:- Driving controls surprisingly work. The Bad:- No optimization whatsoever. The use of unity's ssr and volumetric light effects in particular are absolutely dreadful, I have some experience with both of those and I know that they drag the performance even in light use, but this game is full of them.- So many bugs.- Using Unity's standard mobile fps character in a PC game wasn't the best idea.- There are like 3 different Npc character models that are used over and over and over again- I literally have one of the billboard arts as one of my wallpapers.- There's a picture of Commander Shepard from Mass Effect in the money...?. i bought this game with the intention to drive arround the city listening to new retro wave or similar, just to enjoy the vibes.first i wasnt happy having to solve a murder case, and i did not really care that much about the plot per se, but i spend every second being amazed by the beautiful vibes, lights, reflections and designs of the city so that there was no space for negative thoughts.- the movement and car handling are very unpleasant, mmh it was fine- i dont like driving with the hood of the car on the bottom of the screen- some minor bugs that dont really affect the experience (also why is my shadow from a totally different model?)+++ amazing design of the whole city / buildings / lighting / shades / weather / glass / graffiti (creator is a genius)+ i liked that the missions were not pushy. you could solve objectives on your own without obtrusive hints or reminders+ personal red mug to keep you company. Atmosphere is great and unique (visual and audio work fine together). The short story can be extendable based on the events in my opinion. Totally worth it overall!. A friend offered me a key for this game so I checked out what this game was about before accepting the key and it interested me. I have no interest in first person indie games for the most part, but this game was cool. The visuals are great, I like the music, I love the atmosphere, and the story held my interest. It's a simple mystery game and the driving is a bit clunky, but it's worth a try for the price. I wasn't expecting much, but this game was definitely sataisfying to play. The game took me about an hour and 20 minutes to finish. I did get this game for free, but I decided to purchase a copy to support the developer. This game shows potential for future games to come from this developer.I only came across one spot missing physics, a railing at the train station on the beach's side was lacking physics. I could walk right through it. Other than that it was a flawless play through. I never experienced any game breaking bugs or crashes.. Low effort garbage.Played for 20 minutes. - walking feels like garbage - all you do is follow a stupid arrow that is ALWAYS on screen - I saw the same character model 8 times out of the 20 people I saw on the street - hijaked assets - ITS JUST GARBAGE AND NOT INTERESTING. Fun game. I enjoyed how open the world felt to exploration, and the ending sequence was really cool as well. Make sure not to misplace your car though :). If we consider this as one person's game, it is good. Try it if you love cyberpunk theme.
